Dear Florida PTA Members,

It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our dear friend and colleague, Dave Cullen—a lifetime member of Florida PTA whose impact on our organization and our lives will be felt for generations to come.

Dave served as Parliamentarian for multiple Florida PTA administrations over the past decade and more, offering unmatched wisdom, integrity, and dedication. He was a trusted advisor to numerous Florida PTA Presidents and Boards of Directors, providing thoughtful guidance, steady leadership, and a deep understanding of governance that strengthened our work and our mission. His brilliant mind was a gift to us all, but it was his heart—generous, kind, and unwavering—that truly defined him.

Dave was a tireless advocate and champion for the education and well-being of children. He believed deeply in the power of PTA to make a difference, and he worked diligently to ensure that every decision we made reflected our commitment to children and families. His commitment to children was matched by an equally deep dedication to the environment, where he also devoted his energy to protecting the world our children will inherit. In this work, he served as a lobbyist for the Sierra Club, bringing his voice and expertise to environmental advocacy at the highest levels.

Many of us knew Dave as a mentor, a colleague, and a friend. He had a unique ability to bring clarity to complex issues, to offer counsel with both honesty and compassion, and to inspire confidence in those around him. He led not with ego, but with purpose—and always with a quiet humility that made his contributions even more meaningful.

Beyond his professional and advocacy work, Dave had a creative and joyful spirit that may not have been widely known. He was a versatile entertainer, delighting audiences in vaudeville-style productions. This lesser-known side of Dave reflected his warmth, his humor, and his love for bringing people together—qualities that enriched all who knew him.

As we reflect on his life, we are reminded of the countless ways Dave touched our community. The messages shared in his honor speak to a legacy of mentorship, friendship, and service that will continue to guide us.

We extend our deepest condolences to Dave’s family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. While we mourn his loss, we also celebrate a life so beautifully lived in service to others.

In honor of Dave, let us continue the work he cared so deeply about—with integrity, compassion, and an unwavering commitment to children.

With gratitude and remembrance,
