I want each of you to feel that pride in this association. To feel that potential you possess. To look back at your achievements and to yearn to do more. PTA is not just a hobby to some. It's a cause. It's an instrument of change...a means to make things better for children and families in our community. I'm never at a lack of words when I talk about you. I'm filled with pride when I see your postings about backpack drives, clothes closets, family reading nights and donuts with dads. I know you're making a difference. The more we share our stories and ideas, the more people will hear about the value of PTA and want to belong. Someone shared their story with you. Who will you share your story with today?
Membership is not just a one month campaign, or a slogan, or a contest for numbers. It represents the number of people who value what we value. The number of people we have shared our passion with. If you've never shared your PTA story, start by sharing it with me. I'd love to know why you do what you do. If you can tell me, well, that's one down and who knows how many more to go!
Let's make history!
FLORIDA PTA HEALTHY CHILDREN, HEALTHY FUTURE STATE SUMMIT
Research shows a link between the health outcomes of young people and their academic success. Establishing healthy behaviors during childhood is easier and more effective than trying to change the unhealthy behaviors of adults.
PTA can play a critical role in improving the academic success of all children by helping them establish lifelong healthy behavior patterns. In keeping with our long history of advocating for the physical and
emotional well-being of every child, Florida PTA has reached out to state agencies, community organizations, school districts and other community members to work collaboratively in this endeavor.
The Healthy Children, Healthy Future State Summit will build on this effort by bringing together PTA leaders, educators, and health & wellness experts from around the state to explore the connection
between healthy students and academic achievement. We will learn and share strategies to create, support, and maintain a healthy environment within our schools, communities and homes.

Florida PTA has compiled a list of resources throughout the state of Florida.
Parent involvement in education has been a priority of Florida PTA and National PTA for more than 100 years. In 1997, National PTA worked with Dr. Joyce L. Epstein of Johns Hopkins University to develop National Standards for Parent/Family Involvement Programs based upon extensive research. The six standards were endorsed by nearly 100 education, health and parent involvement organizations, and were included in No Child Left Behind as the federal definition of parent involvement.
